Northeast of the park, the McGee Creek Natural Scenic Recreation Area teems with 8,900 acres of wilderness-type recreational outdoor experiences. More than 25 miles of trails in the NSRA include hiking, backpacking, mountain biking and horseback riding. For overnight trail users, there are currently eight backpack campsites, two equestrian camping areas, and even two campsites for canoeists who venture up the lake into this area. Near the parking area, there is a beautiful overlook and a nature trail that both offer spectacular views of McGee Creek Lake down below.
Visitors must obtain a permit when entering the area and when camping.
