About Lake Wedington

The Lake Wedington Recreation Area is located on a section of the Ozark National Forest just west of Fayettevile/Springdale on Ar Hwy 16, separate from the main section of the National Forest. This rec area offers a 102-acre lake, cabins and other facilities built by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the 1930s. Under the guidance of the Soil Conservation Service, numerous trees were also planted in the area at the same time. In 1954, the land and management were passed on to the USDA Forest Service.

Over time, many of the facilities had become a little run-down, but through efforts and hard work of the Friends of Lake Wedington volunteer group, several biuldings and other facilites have been restored, and the Recreation Area is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Lake Wedington offers 6 historic cabins, a pavilion, lodge, bathhouse, boat launch ramp and boat house, fishing pier, swimming, picnicing, camping, hiking and so much more. The lake is popular with fisherman, offering a handicap-accessible fishing pier, and boats with up to 10 max horsepower are allowed on the water.

The campground offers 18 designated primitive camping sites, with no hookups or utilities available. There is a restroom with flush toilets available. A group camping area is also avaialble.

Two trails are available, the short Lake Wedington Trail and the 7-mile long North Twin Hiking/Mtn Biking trail.

Lake Wedington has always been popular with swimmers in the summertime, and offers a great place to cool off. A handicap-accessible ramp leads into the water for ease of access. An historic diving platform was built by the WPA, but in recent years has fallen into disrepair, and may not be available for use anymore.
