About the Ozark National Forest

The Ozark National Forsest encompasses approximately 1.2 million acres of public land in northern and central Arkansas, and is divided into four major sections and two smaller units. The main tract of land, along with four of the other sections, are found in the Boston Mountains of the Arkansas Ozarks. A large section is also found in the Arkansas River Valley, and surrounds some of Arkansas' tallest mountains, including Mt. Magazine, Mt. Nebo and Petit Jean Mountain.

Areas of interest within and bordering the Ozark National Forest include five Wilderness Areas, several Wildlife Management Areas, Alum Cove Natural Bridge, Pedestal Rocks, and Lake Weddington. Major trails include the Sylamore Trail, the Huckleberry Mountain Horse Trail, and the 165 mile long Ozark Highlands Trail.

Several Arkansas State Scenic Byways pass through the Ozark National Forest. Some of these include Arkansas Scenic 7 Byway, Boston Mountains Scenic Loop, the Pig Trail, and Sylamore Scenic Byway.

*Currently, there are so many more features and areas within the Ozark NF than I have had time to photograph, gather information for, and list here. As soon as new information become available, and I am able to gather pictures, I will post these new areas and features here.*
