About Current River

***Current River State Park is currently still under development. The park first opened to visitors in the summer of 2012 for limited day-use only on the weekends. Currently, the park is open for the 2013 summer season, again for limited day-use only.***

Located along the Current River, and surrounded by the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, Current River State Park is one of Missouri's newest state parks. The 780-acre property was the former corporate retreat of the Alton Box Company (Alton, Illinios), in the 1930s and 1940s. The park has two man-made lakes, a cave, picnic tables and grills, and primitive restrooms. Many of the historic buildings on site, built for the Alton Box Company, are now on the National Register of Historic Places.

Beginning in the summer of 2012, and continuing during the summer of 2013, the park is open for day-use only, typically on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Two picnic shelters are available for advanced reservations, as well as small tours of some the historic buildings.

If you are floating the Current River, the park is located between the Pulltite Campground & Access and the Round Spring Campground & Access, on river left. Stop by and check out the park while floating the river!

Be sure to check the park's website for future updates and current status of the park.
