Missouri's State Parks offer many opportunities for swimming, camping, hiking, canoeing, fishing, and so much more. Many miles of trail cater to hikers and backpackers alike, and some trails even offer opportunities for mtn bikes and dirt bikes. Taum Sauk Mountain, Missouri's highest peak, is just one of many natural features protected by these parks. State historic sites protect and preserve the birthplaces and homes of some of Missouri's best known citizens. Civil War battlefields and other historic structures are also protected.
