Washington State Park Floating, Swimming & Fishing

Floating/Canoe Rentals

Float trips are available from the park along the Big River. They are offered daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and weekends only in May and September. Rentals from the park include life vests, paddles, and transportation. Children 12 and under are free, but do count as occupants. You must be 18 or older to rent. The park offers canoes, rafts and tubes for rent. Rafts are offered as either 6-person or 8-person seating capacity.

Floats are from the Hwy 21 bridge to Washington State Park, a distance of about 3 miles. Shuttle services are also available if you bring your own watercraft. Please contact the park at 636-586-0322 to make reservations, inquire about availability, or to check on river conditions.

Swimming

Swimmers at the park have a choice between a natural gravel bar swimming area in Big River, or an olympic-sized swimming pool.

Fishing

The Big River offers fisherman a wide variety of fish to catch, from catfish and crappie to large and smallmouth bass. The portion of the Big River from the Hwy 21 bridge to the Meramec River has been designated a Smallmouth Bass Special Management Area by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Special regulations of length and possession limits apply to smallmouth bass in this area.
