About Old Davidsonville
Established in 1815 in the Arkansas Territory, the townsite of Davidsonville is historically preserved by Old Davidsonville State Park. The town served as the territory's first post office, courthouse, and land office. Soon the town was bypassed by the Southwest Trail, an overland route that extended from St. Louis to Mexico, and had nearly faded by the 1830s.
Today, archeologists are discovering many remarkable finds in the old town site, from streets to foundations to objects that tell the story of frontier life following the Louisiana Purchase. Park tours and exhibits provide additional information about this historic Arkansas town, as well as many others like it.
Fishing is a big deal here. The park borders the Black River and a 12-acre fishing lake. The Black River access offers a boat launch ramp, where as the fishing lake does not. A fishing pier is available on the lake, as well as rentals for fishing boats with trolling motors, pedal boats, and canoes. Anglers also have the choice of visiting the nearby Eleven Point and Spring Rivers.
49 campsites are offered at the park, as well as a picnic area, pavillions, playgrounds, hiking trails and a visitors center, which includes a gift shop and exhibits.
