About Lake Ft. Smith
**Special Notice**
Lake Fort Smith State Park officially reopened to the public on May 21, 2008. Closed since January 2002, the park was relocated to a new site, due to the combining of Lake Ft. Smith and Lake Shepard Springs into a single, 1,400 acre reservior water supply for the city of Ft. Smith.
***

Located in the Boston Mountains of the Ozarks, Lake Ft. Smith State Park offers many activities for the outdoor enthusiast. Camping, Fishing, Canoeing/Kayaking, Hiking, Mountain Biking, Swimming, and Nature Study are some of the many activities offered in this part of the Ozarks. For backpackers, the park serves as the western start of the 165-mile Ozark Highlands National Recreation Trail.
While the park was closed and relocated, new facilities and features were added. 30 campsites are available for those wishing to enjoy the outdoors just a little closer, or a group lodge is also available. The group lodge features a great room and kitchenette that can accommodate up to 32 people, 16 in each wing.
The park also boasts picnic sites, a pavillion, swimming pool, marina with boat rentals, boat launch ramp, playground, hiking trail, and a visitor center. The visitor center houses an exhibit gallery, classroom/meeting room, and patio featuring an outdoor wood-burning fireplace. The visitor center offers great views overlooking the lake.
