About Shores Lake

Tucked away in the southern Ozarks of Arkansas near Mulberry, Shores Lake offers camping, fishing, and hiking among many other activities. The 82-acre lake is stocked with catfish, bluegill and bass, and offers a handicap-accessible fishing pier, designed for those with wheelchairs to be able to enjoy fishing from the waters of Shores Lake. Underwater structures have been built to attract fish to the pier.

The dam for Shores Lake was started in the 1930s by a nearby CCC camp, but was not finished until 1958, through a cooperative effort between the USDA Forest Service and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

Facilities include the handicap-accessible fishing pier and restrooms, a boathouse, a boat launch ramp, swimming beach with accessible ramp, a group pavilion, 28 picnic sites, a campground and hiking trails.

The campground offers 19 individual sites and 4 double sites. Each campsite is primitive. Camping trailers are allowed in the campground, but no hookups are available. Drinking water is available, in season.

The Shores Lake-White Rock Loop Trail is a 13 mile looped trail that meanders through the Ozark National Forest between the Shores Lake Rec Area and the White Rock Mountain Rec Area. This wonderful hiking/backpacking trail offers hikers many scenic stops, tough climbs, hidden grottos and numerous waterfalls.
