About the Jessieville/Winona/Fourche RDs

Together, the Jessieville, Winona and Fourche Ranger Districts cover nearly 406,000 acres in the Northern and Eastern end of the Ouachita National Forest. The Jessieville Ranger district also borders the northern shore of Lake Ouachita.

Aside from Lake Ouachita, numerous other smaller lakes can be found in or bordering these districts, including Winona Lake and the southern end of Lake Nimrod. Hundreds of miles of creeks and rivers also criss-cross this portion of the National Forest.

Areas of interest include Lake Sylvia Campground, Irons Fork Scenic Area and Forked Mountain Falls. Located within the Winona District is the Flatside Wilderness, which offers an amazing view from atop the Flatside Pinnacle, looking over the Ouachita Mountains all the way to Forked Mountain.

Numerous trails can be hiked around these three districts, from small loop trails to approx. 70 miles of the Ouachita National Recreation Trail as it cuts across the Jessieville and Winona Districts.

Two popular scenic drives are also available through the forest. One is the Winona Auto Tour Scenic Drive, which skirts the southern boundary of the Flatside Wilderness. Another popular route is the Buffalo Gap Auto Tour Scenic Drive, which begins across from the Winona Scenic Drive.
